OHS for Heavy Vehicles including Trucks

Occupational Health and Safety within the Heavy Vehicle industry has been the focus of several WorkCover, WorkSafe and Industrial Relations campaigns in recent years.

Heavy Vehicle drivers have had heavy regulations put in place with regard to their working hours and the flow on effects of these additional costs have been passed onto the end consumer. OHS Management Systems and procedures have quickly become common place for many transport companies across Australia with the target of reducing transport related injuries.

The Australian Truck Safe program helps trucking companies implement comprehensive OHSMS's, however it can be expensive and cumbersome to use. Click here for more information about a simplified Heavy Vehicle Drivers Manual

 The Push for Compliance

Recently we have seen severe penalties being handed out to Freight Companies for incidents that could have bene avoided. Truck Driving and interstate transport has faced the price of fuel hikes, driver shortages and a range of challlenges over the years.

The recent focus from regulators has added to the pressure that operators have to withstand in order to operate a profitable company. With that said, simple measures can be taken to avoid accidents occuring in many situations. Drivers being killed during loading and unloading is totally avoidable, and through correct induction, training and compliance drivers can operate with increased levels of safety.
